Terms and Conditions
All guides and guests must remain vigilant regarding COVID-19, which continues to impact travel and operations. We implement appropriate health protocols as conditions warrant.
Participation requires adequate physical condition for wilderness activities including hiking, wading in rivers, and camping. You must disclose any medical conditions that could affect your safety or participation, including complete medical history and current medications, swimming ability assessment (required for river safety), emergency contact information, and allergies or dietary restrictions.
Important: All participants must obtain comprehensive travel insurance before departure. Required coverage includes trip cancellation/interruption equal to trip cost. Please also consider specific to your situation: additional coverages such as emergency medical evacuation, remote wilderness activities and helicopter evacuation, and pandemic-related cancellation coverage, or cancel for any reason coverage. Proof of coverage must be provided upon purchase for verification.
Given Southwest Alaska's remote location and unpredictable weather, travel insurance protects you against significant financial losses from cancellations, delays, or modifications due to weather, transportation failures, or other circumstances beyond our control. Participants who fail to obtain adequate travel insurance have no recourse against Alaska Rainbow Adventures for any losses resulting from such events.
All trips are booked first-come, first-served and subject to prior commitments. Spaces are not guaranteed until confirmed with required deposit. You can book for groups of 2 to 10 persons in size, depending upon the destination. Togiak River trips are limited to 6 guests by federal permit requirement. Goodnews and Kanektok Rivers are limited to 8 guests. If you are a single angler, please ask about joining one of our existing trips. We can let you know what is available and put you on our email list, which keeps you updated on availability.
Weight limit: 250 pounds per person including all personal gear and any equipment rented from us. This limit is due to aircraft capacity restrictions and safety requirements.
We will attempt to accommodate additional weight whenever possible, within the limits of available aircraft. This may result in additional charges for extra aircraft capacity, requirement to leave excess items behind at departure point (most air services provide temporary storage during trip duration), or no guarantee of accommodation beyond the 250 lb limit.
We reserve the right to fill any remaining spaces if your group size does not reach the maximum number of persons we take on any particular trip. Exceeding weight limits may prevent participation if alternative arrangements cannot be made. We strongly recommend staying within the 250 lb limit to ensure smooth departure and avoid potential complications or additional costs.
Deposits and Payment Schedule: A deposit of 50% of trip cost is required to confirm booking. Deposits are due within 15 days of requesting space on any trip. Balance is due 60 days before trip start or June 1st, whichever comes first. Reservations within 60 days require full payment at booking. Special offers require full payment when booking.
Payment Methods: Check or wire transfer.
No-Refund Policy: All deposits and payments are non-refundable and non-transferable for any reason, including but not limited to illness, injury, weather delays, travel disruptions, or personal emergencies. Due to Alaska's short fishing season and advance commitments for aircraft, guides, and permits, we cannot accommodate cancellations with refunds.
Transfer Option: You may transfer your reserved spot to another qualified person subject to our approval and completion of all required documentation. Transfer approval requires the replacement participant's ability to safely participate and completion of all required forms and terms and conditions.
Important: Air transportation is provided by independent charter operators and is NOT owned or controlled by Alaska Rainbow Adventures. We are not responsible for flight delays, cancellations, or mechanical issues, aircraft safety or pilot qualifications, baggage loss or damage during air transport, or weather-related flight disruptions. All air services are subject to weather conditions and charter operator availability beyond our control.
Alaska Rainbow Adventures is not responsible for loss, damage, or injury to persons or property caused by weather conditions and natural disasters, transportation problems, government actions or travel restrictions, health emergencies or pandemics, equipment failures beyond our control, third-party service provider issues, or other events beyond our reasonable control.
Weather Decision Authority: Floatplane pilots have final authority on all fly/no-fly decisions based on weather conditions. After 2-3 days of weather delays (depending on trip length), insufficient time may remain to complete the trip safely due to river distances and scheduling constraints. Head guides may cancel trips due to flooding, dangerous water levels, or other extreme weather conditions, typically in consultation with our main office. All weather-related cancellations or modifications are considered force majeure events subject to our no-refund policy, which is why comprehensive trip insurance with weather coverage is mandatory for all participants.
For safety or operational reasons, we reserve the right to cancel or modify trip schedules without recourse. Such changes do not entitle guests to refunds or rebooking.
Included in Trip Cost: Round-trip air transportation from designated starting point, comfortable tent camp accommodations, all meals during the trip, professional guiding services, and life jackets and safety equipment.
Services NOT Included (Your Responsibility): Alaska fishing license and king salmon stamp (mandatory - purchase at www.adfg.alaska.gov), fishing tackle, rods, reels, flies, and leader materials, personal sleeping bags (rentals may be available), travel insurance (mandatory), accommodations and meals at starting/ending points, gratuities for guides and staff (not included but customary - industry standard is 15-20% of trip cost), personal items and alcoholic beverages, and park fees and taxes.
Alaska Fishing License Requirement: You must have a valid Alaska fishing license and king salmon stamp (if applicable) before your trip. Failure to have proper licensing prohibits fishing participation with no refund.
No fishing success is guaranteed. Fishing is inherently unpredictable and success depends on numerous factors beyond our control including weather conditions, water levels, water temperature, fish migration patterns, spawning cycles, and natural fish behavior. While our experienced guides will make every effort to put you on fish and provide the best possible fishing experience, we cannot and do not guarantee that you will catch fish, achieve daily limits, or catch specific species.
Fish Harvest Limitations: Due to the remote camp nature of our operations, we have no facilities for fish processing, preservation, or shipping. We occasionally harvest male salmon for camp meals, and guests may be able to keep a limited number of fish on the final day of the trip (weather and logistics permitting), but this is never guaranteed. Guests should not expect to take home processed fish or daily limits of salmon.
Your trip cost reflects guiding services, transportation, accommodations, and meals - not fishing results or fish processing services. Guide effort and expertise are provided regardless of fishing success.
Internal Dispute Resolution: Before pursuing legal action, both parties agree to attempt resolution through direct communication with Alaska Rainbow Adventures management, good faith resolution efforts within 30 days of initial complaint, and optional mediation through a neutral third party in Alaska if direct resolution fails. This internal process does not prevent either party from pursuing legal remedies if resolution efforts are unsuccessful.
Safety Requirements and Guide Authority: You must follow all safety instructions provided by guides and comply with established safety protocols at all times. Our guides have full authority to make safety-related decisions in the field, including modifying activities, routes, or procedures when conditions warrant. Guide decisions regarding safety are final and binding.
Safety Violations: Failure to follow safety instructions or guide directions may result in exclusion from specific activities for the remainder of the trip, voiding of liability protections under this agreement, or responsibility for any additional costs or damages caused by non-compliance. Due to the remote nature of our operations, immediate removal from trips is not operationally feasible. However, safety violations will be documented.
Alcohol Policy: Moderate alcohol consumption by guests 21+ is permitted during designated camp times only. Alcohol is strictly prohibited during all fishing and river activities, equipment operation, safety briefings, and transportation services. You are responsible for your conduct and safety. Violation of safety policies, including alcohol misuse, places yourself and others at risk and may void liability protections.
We utilize satellite communications to coordinate any emergency situations that may arise. Emergency response procedures are handled on a case-by-case basis depending on the specific situation, location, weather conditions, and available resources. While we maintain emergency communication capabilities, response times and available options may be limited by weather, terrain, and other factors beyond our control.
WARNING - INHERENT RISKS: There are significant elements of risk in any adventure, sport or activity associated with the outdoors or wilderness. Specific risks include but are not limited to falling, slipping on wet surfaces, and drowning; cold weather and heat related injuries; acts of nature including avalanche, rock fall, inclement weather; river crossings and travel involving small aircraft; equipment failure; watercraft risks; animal encounters; accidents or illness in remote places without immediate medical facilities; fatigue and dizziness; food-borne illness; getting lost or separated; communication failures; and emergency evacuation delays.
Voluntary Participation: You acknowledge these risks and voluntarily assume full responsibility for participation.
By participating, you RELEASE, WAIVE, and HOLD HARMLESS Alaska Rainbow Adventures, its owners, employees, and agents from any liability, claims, or damages arising from your participation, including those that may result from negligence (but not gross negligence or intentional misconduct). You agree to INDEMNIFY Alaska Rainbow Adventures from any costs or liability incurred due to your participation.
By participating in this trip, you grant Alaska Rainbow Adventures the right to photograph, video, or otherwise record your participation and to use your name, likeness, voice, and images for promotional, educational, marketing, and other business purposes including websites, brochures, social media, and other materials. Photos and recordings may be taken by company staff, guides, or other participants during trip activities. No additional compensation will be provided for such usage.
Governing Law: This agreement shall be construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Alaska. Any legal action arising from this agreement must be brought in Alaska state courts.
Dispute Resolution: Any claim must be filed within one (1) year of the incident giving rise to the claim. If internal dispute resolution efforts are unsuccessful, disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration in Alaska under the rules of the American Arbitration Association. The prevailing party in any legal proceeding shall be entitled to recover reasonable attorney fees and costs.
Due to insurance requirements, each angler wishing to participate in any trip arranged by Alaska Rainbow Adventures must read and sign an "Waiver and Terms Acceptance Form" covering the terms and conditions outlined here. (we will provide a link at booking). You accept and are bound by these terms and conditions even if you do not return the form.
It is your responsibility to ascertain that you are fit enough to participate in this type of activity and, in doing so, accept all risks and costs involved should it be deemed you cannot at any time before or during your trip with Alaska Rainbow Adventures.
Note: We are not a fixed operation such as a lodge, and we operate in several different locations around the Bristol Bay and Southwest region of Alaska away from usual supply sources. Because of this, we do not always have on hand many of the items that one might find available at a fixed operation. While we make every attempt to have all the items we promise for any particular trip, due to operations and the logistics of operating in remote areas of Alaska, some services may be subject to change without notice.
