General Information About Our Trips

How large or how small of a group can we accommodate? Where in Alaska are our trips? How long do they last? What kinds of meals do we offer on the trips?

This section of the web site will answer these questions and more. If for some reason we have not satisfactorily answered your questions please contact us by e mail or call. Our phone and e-mail address can be found under the about/contact us menu above.

Some General Information

Group Size

Small group size is an important part of our philosophy at Alaska Rainbow Adventures. By limiting our trips to no more then six anglers*, we are able to provide a personal, high quality wilderness experience. If you are looking for an outstanding adventure away from the crowds offering unrestricted fishing time, a wilderness float with A.R.A. is exactly what you want.

*Please note that arrangements for larger groups can be made for trips on some rivers if your group is larger then six persons, call for details

Location

Alaska Rainbow Adventure's trips start either in Dillingham or King Salmon depending on what river you choose to float. We recommend that you arrive at least a day before to insure that all your luggage arrives, and to allow you an opportunity to shop for any last minute items you may need. On the morning of your trip, we will board a float plane for the scenic flight to the river. This flight itself is an exciting part of any Alaskan adventure.

Rafts

On our deluxe trips state of the art 18' catarafts from the largest producer of whitewater craft in America are utilized to get you safely down the river in comfort. Each raft is equipped with a custom rowing frame, floor, and for angler comfort, padded high back seats. For our intimate rivers program we may utilize smaller catarafts or rafts, however all of these craft provide a safe, comfortable platform for fishing and relaxing while drifting downstream in search of what action awaits around the next bend.

Accommodations

Accommodations on the deluxe river trips are in spacious, high quality six-person tents. Each of these tents is used to house two anglers. This provides you ample space for your gear, as well as a comfortable retreat should the weather become inclement. These tents make getting ready in the morning a breeze, allowing you to stand comfortably while gearing up and putting on waders. We also provide cots and sleeping pads, a welcome luxury after a day of fishing. Each campsite will have a designated area away from camp, with the private toilet unit that is required under the auspices of our federal permit. We now even offer unlimited hot showers while on the river for that fresh have not been fishing feeling. Please note that our Intimate rivers trips may offer a few less of these deluxe comforts, depending on what we can safely carry in aircraft and on the rafts.

Meals

Meals are served home style and offer generous portions of traditional entrees prepared with choice cuts of meat and fresh fish. These come with all the trimmings and dessert. At midday, a hearty lunch is prepared on the bank, and should you need an extra bit of energy to help you land that big one, snacks of fresh fruit and cookies are available. You are invited to make menu suggestions for your trip and we will try to accommodate them whenever possible. We recommend you drink only filtered water, which we will provide throughout the trip.

Daily Routine*

Your wake-up call every morning is 7:30 am with hot coffee or favorite beverage brewing. Breakfast is at 8:00 am. After breakfast, you will have time to go back to your tent to pack up your bags, fold up your sleep tent and take your gear down to rafts. The rafts are then loaded and we start floating around 9:30 am. We spend the morning float/fishing until lunchtime. After lunch, we continue float/fishing to our evening campsite arriving about 5:30 pm sometime a bit later. After the rafts have been unloaded, the guides will begin to set up camp (you can help if you like). Your next decision is whether to sit back and just relax or continue fishing the camp waters. It generally takes an hour for the camp to be up and ready. Appetizers are ready around 6:30pm and supper at 7:30 pm. After supper, you can wade fish the camp waters until you are satisfied. If you want a hot shower in the evening just ask your guides and they will set up the shower for you.

* Later in the season we get a latter start due to changes in the length of day.

Catch and Release Policy

During your adventure A.R.A. policy is to release all species unharmed, except for the occasional salmon destined for the dinner table. If you are looking to take home a salmon or two, we ask that this be done on the last day of the trip as cooler space is limited.

Tackle

Both fly and spin equipment are appropriate for the rivers we float, either method can be very successful. We welcome non-fly fishing anglers on our trips and offer basic fly fishing instruction and equipment to those interested in learning more. Once you have booked your trip with A.R.A. we will send you a list of suggested equipment, flies and lures to bring with you. We'll be happy to answer any questions you may have, just ask.
