it on their own our semi or self guided fully outfitted trips - An Alaska Rainbow
Adventures float trip will satisfy your quest for the ultimate Alaska fishing
experience.

Mother Nature
delivered one of those rare Alaskan summers to the Bristol Bay region in 2009.
Warmer temperatures and more days with blue skies then you might expect to find
in an area known for unpredictable weather. Now we really are not complaining about the
weather it was "fantastic!" after all especially after the rain and
high water we had in the fall of 08, but it also bought forth a few twists that had to
be
dealt with One such twist was low water levels where some rivers were so
deficient that portions
of trips had to be switched in whole or part to other waters for the well being of our clients
that would allow safe passage of our
rafts as well as to protect expensive equipment
from damage. The weather also showed something folks often forget about
river trips even in Alaska, the sun can be intense and therefore sun block on
the river is essential (Sunblock has been on our packing list since the early
days, but is often left out, sun block in Alaska you say?). That said, on waters where the
sockeye salmon were spawning the rainbow fishing was described as "epic"
such was the description used by our clients that made it to Moraine Creek in 2009. On the Alagnak the
salmon runs were down a bit from the highs of the past several years and this was
evident in the low numbers of dead salmon seen along the banks as well as
locations in river where they normally collect. However as the silvers
returned in strength late in the season and when we were able to locate pockets of spawning chums the rainbow
fishing was substantially better. The Togiak river was spectacular as ever -
Just getting there is said to be worth the price of admission alone and we
are not the only ones to highly recommend a trip with us to this beautiful western Alaska river
be sure to read the comments from one of our Togiak river guests below.
The
Togiak is another of our trips where a
few rainbows over 30" were bought to hand in 2009, one tapped out at 34"
Kudos's to our Togiak head guide this year, Mike Bianchi. ... Speaking of which,
here is a note from one of our clients guided by Mike on the Togiak in 2009....
Paul:
It was a trip
of a life time. The weather was glorious. The only rain was the day we
flew to the lake and then the sun shone on us and the mountains for the
nest 5 days. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants
great fishing and a mountainous landscape for a back drop. I caught my
trophy rainbow-28 inches and we caught the most beautiful dolly varden I
had ever seen; 2-4 lbs.
The food was outstanding-steaks,
shrimp and crab, eggs, bacon and french toast just to name a few. But
the part of the trip that I enjoyed he most was spending time getting to
know our hard working guide, cook, bear authority, boat paddler and all
around "best new friend" Mike Bianchi. It was so refreshing to spend 6
days fishing with someone who you could tell, from the very beginning,
loved doing what he was doing and honestly enjoyed being with us and
sharing the beauty of Alaska.
Mike worked his butt off.
He was always happy to show me the ropes; and was a get picture taker
and fish netter. We never ran into any other group, except for 3 other
fishermen flown in for 4 hours of fishing upstream of our position. We
has the Togiak to ourselves. Paul, you and Mike run a first class
operation. I am 59 and no spring chicken, and Mike always was there to
make sure I was having a great time.
I look forward to
another "adventure" with you.

Select trips in 2009 saw the debut of our new deluxe accommodations to
go along with our 10x20 dining tent that first appeared in 2008. There
are new 10x10 Alaskan made sleeping tents designed for Alaska's extreme
environments. We will be adding additional copies of these to our Togiak
trips for the 2010 season as well.
New option for Alagnak float trips in 2010
Over
the years of doing trips here in Alaska we have been considering this as
an option and now for 2010 we are making it available to you for trips
on the Alagnak river and calling it the
Alagnak River Hyper Deluxe Fishing Package.
One
of the things about floating with any type of raft that is loaded down
with camping gear and anglers is that they do not allow you true access
to all the available water that a smaller lightly loaded raft can get
to. Therefore for 2010 we have available an option that provides for
each two guests a guide with a custom built inflatable drifter raft.
This is a specially built raft with casting stations front and rear, an
anchor system that allows it to hold stationary in almost all water on
the river, maneuverable enough to scoot across or back up some runs
(perfect for mousing big bows on the
Alagnak!!)
allowing
great access to the best water. We can do this because the boats are
first off specially built to do just this and are only lightly loaded
with lunch, beverages and essential gear you need for the day.
All other gear will be
carried to pre determined camp sites on one of our cargo boats and camp
will be pre set by a camp helper before your arrival and taken down each
morning after you have packed for the day (On days we actually move
location). This differs from our regular deluxe Alagnak trips where you
travel on board rafts with all your gear the camp gear and your guide
and you assist setting up and taking down camp and stop in areas the
loaded boat is able to access and stop. This option does coast more as
there is a lower guest to guide ratio 2 to 1, more boats four instead of
two, and additional camp help so expect to pay 4495.00 per person for
this service seven days and six nights but with this access you will
catch more fish then you would sitting on the gear raft and you get our
famous deluxe accommodations in our traveling tent lodge. No one but
Alaska Rainbow Adventures offers you this exceptional level of
service in an Alaska float trip, even most lodges can not touch us for
pure fishing time on the water and the access these inflatable drift
boats offer. Alagnak Hyper Deluxe Fishing Package for the serious fisher
- Minimum of four passengers but able to handle groups of up to eight
anglers. Call today 877-235-2647
More
from another ARA client in 2009 ...
My
first encounter with the wild rivers of Alaska came in 2002 on a
memorable float trip with a good friend and fishing buddy, down the
Kisaralik River in western Alaska. I quickly became a devotee of this
type of adventure, spending numerous summer vacations exploring various
Alaskan rivers, and sampling the diverse fishing and camping
opportunities available in this beautiful wilderness state.
The economy was depressed
in late August 2009. The decision was made to skip our annual vacation.
However, for me, the desire to sleep on an Alaskan river bank was all
too real and I contacted Paul Hanson of Alaska Rainbow Adventures. He
had space available for a trip down Moraine Creek the following week.
“Bring a sleeping bag and your fishing gear” he said. “All else is
provided”. It was too easy to pass up.
I, and four fellow
clients, spent the next seven days, fishing and exploring one of the
most spectacular rivers I’ve found in Alaska. The timing couldn’t have
been better. The Sockeye salmon were in full spawn, with thousands of
fish kicking their way up river, followed by the biggest Rainbow trout
I’ve ever encountered. The wildlife proved to be even more spectacular.
Every Grizzly bear in the area descended on the river to partake in the
Sockeye feast. The bears were so focused on the fish that they paid
little attention to the fishermen in our party, so we shared our fishing
holes with these fascinating fishing companions.
I brought home over two
hours of video footage plus hundreds of photos, mostly of the bears
doing what they do in their natural environment. It was a wonderful
journey and one that I will never forget. Paul Hanson ran a perfect
trip. The food was great, his cots and spacious tents made for
comfortable nights and his fishing tips produced record Rainbows for
everyone in the party.
Anyone with an interest
in fishing and a love of the great outdoors would be well advised to
contact Paul Hanson and get on board for one of his great Alaskan
adventures.

Paul,
The Moraine Creek float
trip I took in August 2009 was the best Alaska fly fishing trip
I have ever been on. I caught my personal record rainbow and
there were lots of big fish. Of the 50 or so fish I caught,
only two were smaller than 20 inches. Seeing all of those bears
was also one of the most memorable experiences of my life. We
must have seen 200 bears during the week. The fact that there is
still a place on earth where you can experience both fantastic
fishing and see so many bears up close makes this a must-do
trip. I loved the food and your camp equipment was first rate.
What a great trip, and for only half the price of a lodge! I'll
be setting up my next trip soon!
