a few words about us
Hello, My name is Paul Hansen and I started Alaska Rainbow Adventures back in 1993 after a stint guiding at some of Alaska's best lodges. I have been tossing a line, pitching tents, manning the oars, paddle or throttle for myself and the pleasure of others here in Alaska since 1979. Occasionally you can still find me manning the pots and pans on a trip doing the cooking, something I have been told by my staff and guests that I am actually pretty good at, but go figure with all the cooks on the staff and guest chefs pitching in you usually just find me washing them. (Hey someone's got to do it!) All kidding aside ~ Our regular staff of guides reside and earn their living here in Alaska, and bring to the river that unique local knowledge of fishing and Alaska lore you can only get as a resident of the 49th state.
Jacob ~ What can I say about this fellow other then he is a life long Alaskan (7 years & counting now!) who throws himself at every task with an unlimited supply of youthful energy, enthusiasm, wonderment and the ability to learn something new from every experience, unless of course it's nap time. Yes, he is pretty damn cute and I am a whole lot prejudiced when it comes to praise for this little guy, but his mom and dad did what was arguably their best work together with this one!

Your Guides
Mike ~ Hmm, where to start, having grown up in Alaska he has
pursued and as best myself and the rest who know him can
tell Mike may actually have caught almost every species
of fresh and saltwater sport-fish this state has to
offer. From steelhead in remote salmon drainages in the
Aleutians to Halibut off of the tip of Southeast Alaska,
Grayling in the shadow of Denali, and Trout everywhere
in between, Mike's seen more water than most folks ever
dream of, of course we swear he has gills and was a
technical advisor for the underwater scenes in Waterworld. Having worked as a commercial fisherman, a
licensed sea captain, and now as a fishing guide with us
Mike is comfortable, and competent in, everything from a
one man cataraft to the larger inflatable's we have here
at Alaska Rainbow Adventures, and then there is that 600
foot ocean vessel, but you'll have to ask him about
that. We should mention Mike's other claim to fame - He
shows no fear in the kitchen, his meals almost always
illicit "oooohs" and "ahhhs" in camp, (one of the
reasons I end up on pots and pans). His personal
dedication to detail on the oars, with a rod, and with a
spatula are all factors that make him a good fishin'
pard, and a top-notch guide. Now if we can just get him
to cut his hair and stop singing Jimmy Buffett songs
off-key while rowing.....
Grant
~ Originally a transplant to Alaska but Grant had been
in state a few years before he came to work with us,
come to think of it Grant started guiding with us
two days before 9/11. Needless to say he proved he could
handle the most unexpected of situations and did so with a
quiet calm and professionalism that has him leading many
of our Alaska float trips with particular emphasis on the Alagnak and Moraine creek trips,
but also leading our exploratory trips to new waters.
