Your hands shake

with anticipation, a bead of sweat appears on your forehead as you prepare to cast...you have it bad, it is known here as "Silver Fever" and there is only one cure . . . Get cured on one of Alaska Rainbow Adventures near-exclusive Togiak float trip!

Alaska's fish filled Togiak River flows some 60 miles from Togiak lake to Togiak Bay and is a popular river for all five Pacific salmon. Rising on the western slopes of the Wood River Mountains, the Togiak drains the southeastern quadrant of the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge. With 4.2 million acres, the refuge is about the same size as Connecticut and Rhode Island combined. It is a wilderness area of craggy mountains, broad river valleys and wildlife. While it is easy to be distracted by the scenery, try not to do so when your drag’s screaming, your rod’s bent to the breaking point and you are rapidly running out of line.  That’s king salmon fishing and just one of the reasons the Togiak is one of our favorite Alaskan wilderness rivers!

The Togiak river is also noted as being the best river in Alaska for it's spectacular silver salmon angling with some of the largest coho's you will find on a floatable river in Alaska as well as the most consistent returns as far as run strength.  You will also find available are 'large' resident rainbow trout, arctic char, dolly varden and grayling all while you are surrounded by some of the most beautiful country in Southwest Alaska. Come experience Alaska's Togiak River and the camaraderie of a wilderness Alaska fishing float trip that is second to none.

Togiak river fishing silver salmon Togiak fishing trip"It was a trip of a life time. The weather was glorious. The only rain was the day we flew to Togiak lake and then the sun shone on us and the mountains for the next 5 days. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants great fishing and a mountainous landscape for a back drop. I caught my trophy rainbow-28 inches and we caught the most beautiful dolly varden I had ever seen; 2-4 lbs.
The food was outstanding-steaks, shrimp and crab, eggs, bacon and French toast just to name a few.
But the part of the trip that I enjoyed he most was spending time getting to know our hard working guide, cook, bear authority, boat paddler and all around "best new friend" Mike Bianchi.
It was so refreshing to spend 6 days fishing with someone who you could tell, from the very beginning, loved doing what he was doing and honestly enjoyed being with us and sharing the beauty of Alaska. ” Our guide Mike worked his butt off. He was always happy to show me the ropes; and was a get picture taker and fish netter. We never ran into any other group, except for 3 other fishermen flown in for 4 hours of fishing upstream of our position. We has the Togiak to ourselves. Paul, you and Mike run a first class operation. I am 59 and no spring chicken, and Mike always was there to make sure I was having a great time. I look forward to another adventure with you”

Togiak River Fishing Highlights

  • May - Mid June
One of the best kept secrets in the area is the early season rainbow trout fishing available on the Togiak river and it's tributaries. Unlike many of the other rivers we operate on the Togiak is not closed in the spring for fishing and as such offers anglers wanting to get a start on the season early the opportunity to do so.
  • Late June - July
The Togiak river and it's runs of King Salmon that 'average' 25-40 pounds are best fished late June through July.  While the Chinook may be available even earlier in the lower river home to back trolling with power boats, by waiting until the fish have had some time to move up into the Togiak river on a float trip this will allow you additional opportunities to pursue these world class king salmon.  Also available in July on the Togiak are Sockeye, Chum and in even years pink salmon.
  • August
Coho salmon begin their run into the Togiak early in August and while the peek of this run is less predictable than for other salmon historically it occurs about the 21st of the month and can last well into September.  Coho with sea lice have been caught on our trips all the way up at Togiak Lake so they are able to traverse great distances and spread out through the river system rather quickly.
  • September
Fall is a special time on the rivers and streams of the Bristol bay region and the Togiak river is no different.  With the onset of autumn there is a crispness in the air that just sets off this region with it's spectacular scenery,  fall foliage even a good chance at seeing the northern lights on a clear autumn night.  But what really shines in the fishing, the Coho are still here as are the arctic char and rainbow trout, add a few large grayling on dries into the mix and any week in September can be the trip of a lifetime on this most spectacular Alaskan river.
